The next meeting of our book group is going to be on the 13th of June at 7.30pm in the shop. We’re going to be discussing A Study in Scarlet by Arthur Conan Doyle.
This is the first of Conan Doyle’s stories to feature Sherlock Holmes and so if nothing else it marks a sort of literary watershed. As a bit of a crime fiction junkie I have to confess that I’ve never read any of the Sherlock Holmes stories although I was thoroughly addicted to the recent BBC adaptation, Sherlock (which I have chosen to use to illustrate this post). Unlike our last book this one is mercifully short and was first published as one of several stories in Beeton’s Christmas annual (thank you, Wikipedia) so it’s currently available in a variety of different collections and as a single volume. Hopefully this will spark some life-long love affairs with the famous detective.
Tea and coffee will be provided but you fancy something a little stronger, bring your own.
We don’t require any committment so if you don’t fancy this book or you’re not available on the thirteenth you can always come next time.
Questions and suggestions for our next book are always welcome.
