The sun is shining (temporarily) and I’m sure everyone’s thoughts are turning towards holidays and lazy days on the beach which means there’s no better time to read an evocative novel of life in a different country. This month we’ll be reading The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver and meeting on Wednesday the 18th of July at 7.30pm in the shop.
The Poisonwood Bible tells the story of a missionary family who move from America to a small village in the Belgian Congo. The novel follows the stories of the members of the family as they navigate their new home and gain an understanding of the political situation at the time and the implications of their presence in the counrty. This makes it sound quite heavy and impenetrable but this is actually a very easy book to read. I think it’s a great book, very well written, and I can’t wait to dicuss it with everyone.
Tea and coffee will be provided but you fancy something a little stronger, bring your own.
We don’t require any committment so if you don’t fancy this book or you’re not available on the eigtheenth you can always come next time.
Questions and suggestions for our next book are always welcome.
