Over the last few weeks we’ve been running a few little things to celebrate the awsome work that Oxfam does selling books (and to remind everyone that every book they buy from us can help feed people who are starving). We’ve been helped in this enormously by the lovely people at Balham Bowls Club, 4’33” magazine, Chalk the Sun and our neighbour Arthur Smith (pictured below).
With the help of these people and our wonderful volunteer Jack (who organised everything and deserves the shiniest medal invented) we have raised enough money to buy the following for people who are really in need:
- Training for small scale farming families to make the most of their land and get fair prices for their crops
- Training for farmers to cultivate, harvest and sell tea (particularly close to the heart of our bookshop!)
All that remains is for me to say an enormous thank you to everyone who gave their time and money to us this month (and every month, of course). Oxfam are doing an enormous amnount of good work with the money that we raise and a huge number of people are being helped out of poverty and into self-sufficient, dignified lives.
