Another inspired Pelican Original. Dealing with the very unfashionable topic of personal values, M.V.C. Jeffreys argues for a greater role for personal values in public discussion. The first chapter is entitled ‘What is a person?’ and begins like this: “While social relations are necessary to the very existence of personal values, every form of society offers some kind of threat to these values”.
