When J.R.R. Tolkein’s children were little they would receive annual letters from Father Christmas. These letters (written by their father) detailed life at the North Pole. These letters continued for twenty years and depict a full and colourful world of polar bears, elves and gnomes. They were written in a shaky hand and illustrated with beautiful pictures. This book, edited by Baillie Tolkein, features most of these pictures alongside the text of the letters. They are a beautiful example of a great imagination and the children who helped inspire it.
