14th of December: The Peepshow Girl

The Peepshow girl is the first poetry collection from Marion Lomax. Her poetry is simple but full of deceptive rhythms and beautiful images. You can get a signed copy here. Here is an extract:

Second Wife

This house with a past is appropriatePeepshow

Each of us new only to the other

We all lived with someone else

Before we finally came together.

You talk of years in empty rooms,

Of a garden – like this one – gone to seed.

Nettles and honeysuckle choking in turn;

Sharp-beaked birds nesting in the weed.

I gouge out roots and clear the stones.

Work hard, but grow disturbed to find –

Beneath the weeds, a pattern shows

Which, earlier, someone else designed.
