An Oxfam Christmas is a fun thing. We have shop parties, and surround ourselves with far far too much tinsel. This year my volunteers and I have been planning something a little different.
Meet Alfie the Goat; and our delightful volunteer Hayley. Alfie is a mix of wire and papier-mache and is the star of our Christmas window, which is focused on Oxfam Unwrapped.
Oxfam Unwrapped is a very simple campaign. You buy a goat, for a family some in the world and then that family can use the goat for milk and cheese, to sell and to eat. The Goat will have kids and and they too can be sold or used to create a herd. With one goat and some help from you a family can start a cottage industry, feed their family and send their children to school.
Oxfam Unwrapped Goat costs £25, chickens cost £10 and 100% of your money goes to buying just what you ordered.
These marvelous gifts are perfect for the person who has everything and want to make a difference.
You can buy school lunches, teaching supplies, buckets and hygiene kits and a whole farm yard if you like! And you can buy it right here in the Balham Bookshop.
So, as Hayley adds lights to Alfie and more glitter than is normal, a local primary school walk past and every head turns to our window as our Alfie is more than a little special.
I can feel Christmas is right around the corner…
